Even if you don’t have money to invest in stocks and securities, land ownership has financial benefits for anyone willing to invest in medium to long-term assets.
Land is in short supply
Mark Twain’s quote, “Buy land, they aren’t making any more of it.”, reveals the first and most glaring point: there are fixed amounts of land left. And we all know that when things become scarce, the price goes up. Just think of flying fish; it’s that simple.
Land is Tangible
Unlike stocks, products, and companies, all of which come and go, land is not going anywhere. It can be passed from generation to generation, as is the strong tradition in Barbados. Leaving a “piece o’ land for the children” is as Bajan as Flying Fish and Cou Cou (flying fish again?). As an asset, a piece of the rock is one of, if not the most treasured inheritance in all our history.
Land is necessary
To overstate the obvious, land is at the foundation of life. And if you will pardon the philosophical diversion, owning a piece of the planet represents something that no one can simply take from you.
Full circle
And so we come back to where we started. Is now a good time to buy land? The easy answer is: It’s always a good time to buy land.
